When I was a kid I went to the Pomona Air Museum in Pomona, California. They had a Messerchmitt 262! A jet fighter (bomber if you asked Hitler) from WWII how cool is that!? I went back as an adult and was sad to see the plane was gone. I asked where it went and they told me they had sold it. “To who?” I asked. “Well... we can’t specify who exactly, but let’s just say it is a very wealthy man from the Pacific Northwest.”
Curse you Paul Allen!!

Yeah it's in the hanger next to the one I was in today. It rarely comes out. Also there is a group studying it because they're going to make modern reproductions.

I remember they had a ladder next to it so my 12-year-old self was able to climb up and peer into the cockpit with all its nazi-era dials and labels. It feels like it’s straight out of an Indiana Jones movie. Around the same time I got to go to the Air & Space Museum in DC and I knew they had one but, of course, it was in storage. I was sad.
That is really REALLY fascinating that they are going to do repros and that the one I remember from my childhood is the basis of it. They look like sharks but, hilariously, were named the Swallow (which, in German, means both the bird and ‘to swoop down’).

Haven’t these already been built, or is this a new run?
Here’s one:

They’ve become startlingly expensive and I don’t mean just the 109.

God did I say Pomona? I meant Chino Hills. Sorry Chino Hills Air Museum!

Oh, I was wondering what happened to the original project. The remains of their website are still
here
but otherwise all seems to have gone quiet.
